Roasted With Love

Manuel Ainzuain and his wife, Shayna Ferullo, opened Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters over Labor Day weekend last year with the intention of creating a cozy space where customers could relax or work on their laptops, while enjoying a cup of freshly roasted coffee. One of our favorites: The organic coconut-infused Costa Rica cold brew coffee, also available in hot au lait. Since the couple have a 2-year-old daughter, it was important to also create a welcoming space for children and families. “We love seeing parents relaxing, even for three minutes, while their kids are coloring, doing puzzles and being entertained by the flock of chickens on the property,” says Ainzuain, originally from Lima, Peru. The couple built the space on Route 6A in historic Brewster with 200-year-old reclaimed barn wood, and the décor includes snowy owl pictures and owl planters. They met and married in San Francisco, and it was on the West Coast where they became passionate about discovering different varieties of specialty coffee beans and learned the roasting process. After living there for several years, the two decided to move to the Cape to be closer to Shayna’s family and to start a family of their own. “We are giving this salty Cape Cod life a try!” says Ainzuain. -—Lisa Leigh Connors
