Elisa Sullivan’s jewelry makes a statement, literally. The Sandwich resident is the designing mastermind behind Swirls Jewelry, a collection of inspirational hand-stamped earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
Using materials like sterling silver, gemstones and freshwater pearls, Sullivan’s pieces are inspired by a love of family and the ocean. “I like to incorporate a phrase or line from a poem or words that someone loved,” Sullivan says about her custom pieces.
Sullivan, who began crafting vintage-style beaded jewelry while living in Florida in 1994, decided in 2001 to transition into making pieces entirely from scratch. She took several classes and once becoming a silversmith, she gradually incorporated her natural, vintage-style jewelry with silver. But it wasn’t until after the birth of her son that Swirls came to fruition.
“When I had my son, I began stamping and started making ‘mommy necklaces,’” Sullivan explains. These “mommy necklaces” are stamped with children’s initials or birthdates and may also include birthstone charms. Swirls Jewelry may be personalized with meaningful charms or gemstones or engraved with a word or significant quote—Shakespeare’s “To thine own self be true” or even the popular phrase “Love you to the moon and back.”
Sullivan’s jewelry is sold at stores across the Cape, including The Spotted Cod, 153 Main St., Sandwich; Mermaids on Main, 410 Main St., Chatham; and Homespun Garden, 174 Main St., Falmouth. www.swirlsjewelry.com
