December is the ideal time to set out on a family adventure to Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich, to experience a wonderland of more than 10 miles of holiday lights and decorations displayed throughout the grounds.
This evening venture is the perfect opportunity to take a time out from the holiday frenzy and embrace the outdoors with your loved ones, while delighting in the true spirit of the season.
Kids will love roaming the ethereal premises on a scavenger hunt for Santa’s reindeer, which may lead them to explore Hidden Hollow, a family friendly outdoor discovery area, boasting a giant tree house.
Heritage President and CEO Ellen Spears credits Gardens Aglow with underscoring the importance and beauty of winter activities.
“Gardens Aglow encourages families to rediscover the joy of being outside together, during a time of year when so much of the focus is inside. There is so much here for the entire family to uncover and appreciate.”
Nature lovers, take note: Heritage Museums & Gardens is the largest public garden in Southern New England. It is located on 100 acres of magnificent grounds and trails on the banks of Shawme Pond in Historic Sandwich. Heritage is especially famous for the Dexter Rhododendrons, as well as an encyclopedic collection of daylilies, hostas and hydrangeas. Heritage also holds a nationally significant collection of specialty gardens, water features and sculpture, beckoning another visit come summer.
Add this annual celebration to your list of holiday traditions! Heritage sparkles this holiday season with Gardens Aglow, featuring miles of holiday lights throughout the gardens, a stunning model train exhibit in the Special Exhibitions Gallery, and music and dance performances in the Automobile Gallery. St. Nick will hold court in the Model T. Other activities include holiday crafts, rides on the vintage carousel, and marshmallow roasting over outdoor fire pits. Stroll the gardens with family and friends, and enjoy Heritage in a whole new light.
