“I get to open the door every morning and turn around the open sign and know that it’s mine,” says Sara Sneed, owner of The Bashful Tarte bakery. Formerly located inside Mom & Pops Burgers in Chatham, The Bashful Tarte recently opened its doors in a newly renovated and charming space near Station Avenue in South Yarmouth.

Sara Sneed, owner of The Bashful Tarte, drizzles chocolate over her chocolate peanut butter bombe cake.

The bakery offers fresh muffins, scones and cinnamon popovers daily as well as cupcakes, specialty pies and custom cakes. Sneed, a trained opera singer who performs in plays and musicals across the Cape, practices her lines while she begins baking every day at 5 a.m. She is currently preparing for her role as Aldonza in “Man of La Mancha” at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. Sneed says she feels fortunate to have found such a welcoming spot surrounded by local businesses. With bistro style tables inside and out, you can sit and enjoy luscious lemon bars, chocolate peanut butter bombe cakes, red velvet crinkle cookies and local Beanstock coffee brewed daily. A quote from David Bowie on display in a framed chalkboard on the wall sums up things perfectly: “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I can promise you it won’t be boring.” The Bashful Tarte is certainly a classy and exciting addition to the neighborhood.
