Since 2010, Añejo Mexican Bistro and Tequila Bar has served fresh Mexican fare with a Cape Cod twist at its flagship Falmouth location. Now, co-owners Jesse Kersey and Jamie Surprenant bring the same inspired menu to the new Añejo Mexican Bistro + Beechtree Taqueria in Hyannis. “The chance to open at the iconic Beech Tree location was one that we couldn’t pass up,” says Surprenant. “The uniqueness of the tree cannot be duplicated.” In the center of the property’s courtyard, a breathtaking 200+-year-old beech tree creates a majestic natural canopy over the taqueria and raw bar, which is open during the warm months, while the main building, cozy and bright, is open year-round, with additional seasonal seating on the front patio. Whether dining indoors or out, the fare is as festive as the vibe. Start with Langosta Taquitos (local lobster lightly fried in a flour tortilla with chipotle crema and guacamole) or the Camarones Fundido (bubbling cheese fondue, warm flour tortillas and Añejo spiced shrimp). Not to be missed are the Carne Asada Tacos (marinated skirt steak and soft local corn tortillas) and the Crab Tostada (jumbo lump crab and avocado). Top off your meal with one of Añejo’s renowned cocktails, such as the signature Margarita La Casa or a Smoke Y Mirrors—muy deliciosa! –Marjorie Naylor Pitts
