Meet Ceci Hadawar, Owner of If the Shoe Fits
In the spring of 2002 in Orleans. I opened a second location this April in Chatham.
What do you sell besides shoes?
Clothing, costume jewelry and bags. We cater to stylish women, young and mature, who are looking for something that reflects current fashion trends without being trendy.
How did you get into the shoe business?
In 1981, I moved to Provincetown, and my husband and I opened a shoe repair store. We eventually moved to Orleans and got into the orthopedic shoe/repair business. Over the years, I noticed customers desiring more fashionable yet comfortable shoes. I started bringing comfort fashion into the shoe repair shop and it was so well received that when a space came up on Main Street, I decided to open up a shop.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
You will probably find this amusing, but I’m a minimalist. I keep a small collection of iconic shoes from each year.
What are some popular styles for the summer?
Pointed toe slides, mules, kitten and block heels and the ever-present gladiator caged bootie.
What do you look for when choosing merchandise?
My daughter, who is 30, is my inspiration! When buying, I think of her. How will she wear it? Will it make her feel good? I travel to half a dozen trade shows to Chicago, New York and Boston every year. I am always on the lookout for new designers in their infant stages. But I’m also careful not to follow extreme fashion trends.
