Q&A with Molly and Jenny Joy Avellar of Adorn

Meet Molly and Jenny Joy Avellar, owners of Adorn in Orleans

When did you open Adorn?

In the spring of 2015. We are in our fourth year of business.

What was the original concept? Has it changed?

We have stayed pretty true to our original concept of featuring a curated selection of handcrafted goods and art. From the start, we have focused on carrying small independent designers, makers and artists who are based locally on Cape Cod and around the country, as well as carrying a selection of fair trade goods.

What do you sell at your shop?

Handcrafted jewelry, including Molly’s jewelry line, local fine art, home goods, textiles, ceramics, gifts, plants and vintage finds. Our selection of goods is always growing and changing. We want customers to be able to find something new and unique every time they come into our shop.

What do you look for when choosing products?

We are always on the lookout for new products to carry at Adorn. We search for well-crafted and designed goods that we do not see at every other local shop. We have pretty similar tastes and work together to find products we truly love.

What’s it like running a store together?

We each have our own strong suits that complement each other. We also both have a similar design sense and work together to merchandise and decorate our shop, which is one of our favorite parts of what we do. Like most mothers and daughters, we occasionally bicker about something, but we get over it pretty quickly!
